The D.A.R. in my area is including home-school students in this year's essay contest.
The topics are as follows
Grades 5-8
"What message did the Gettysburg Address communicate to our war-torn nation in 1863? How are the ideals articulated in the speech still relevant for our country today?"
Grades 9-12
"Discuss five perils faced by Christopher Columbus' expedition(s) and how Columbus and his crew overcame them."
Check with your local Daughters of American Revolution for further details.
